SOMA
MY ANCIENT VIHMAANA
2000
My Ancient Vihmaana is an ep by SOMA which provides the perfect soundtrack for riding in your very own ancient vihmanna. Pieter Bourke and David Thrussell deliver four diverse new tracks of their signature dadaist sonic brew. 'We’re interested in contrast and the unexpected clash of sounds and rhythms from a very broad palette involved', declares Bourke. 'But underlining all that, just below the surface, is a deep appreciation and respect for all of the elements we incorporate. Amidst the chaos, strangeness and humour, there is some beauty.'
‘With their albums Soma has already made their way to the top of a music scene which is in the truest sense of the words timeless and internationally oriented. A music which incorporates different directions of electronic music, urbane elements and multi-layered rhythms and samples, full of imaginary force and musical surprises.’ Zillo Magazine
‘Each Soma release is highly welcome to us. There is hardly anyone who manages the art to have a concept open for all musical directions like Soma. With astonishing savvy, Bourke and Thrussell combine trip-hop, trance rhythms, dub effects and sci-fi spheres, ambient soundscapes and world music samples to create atmospherically charged instrumentals.’ Keyboards Magazine
