This is the 2nd release on Sony Soundtracks containing music from the soundtrack to Michael Mann’s biopic Ali starring Wil Smith.

For the score’s orchestral recordings, Pieter Bourke and Lisa Gerrard worked with American Orchestrator, Scott Smalley, whom they worked with previously on The Insider. He also conducted the orchestra for the recording of Gerrard and Bourke’s cues; a process that both composers found to be very rewarding. Bourke says ‘Scott did a wonderful job of faithfully translating our music for the orchestra. Lisa and I put so much work into our writing, so that every demo we play to the director sounds as fully realized as possible. When we came to the orchestral sessions it was inspiring to hear the music with all the richness, expressiveness and ambience that you only get with a room full of great players, but with all the shape and sculpture of our original.’

Pieter Bourke and Lisa Gerrard’s score received a 2002 Golden Globe Award Nomination for Best Original Score.
